Glass blowing (or glassblowing) is the process of forming glass into useful shapes while the glass is in a molten, semi-liquid state. A person who blows glass is called a glassblower or glass-smith. The transformation of raw materials into glass takes place around 2400°F, at which point the glass emits enough heat to appear almost white hot. The glass is then left to "fine out," and the working temperature is reduced in the furnace to around 2000°F. At this stage, the glass appears to be a bright orange color. The major tools involved in glass blowing are the blowpipe, the punty, bench, marver, blocks, jacks, paddles, tweezers, and a variety of shears.
The art of blowing glass is by no means a new art form, but its popularity has certainly reached its height in recent years. The final product of this demonstration will be a glass jar, but any kind of glass piece can be achieved through the glass blowing process. "Hi! I'm Tom Wright from Ginger Bread Glass and I'm here today to show you how to make a glass jar. Today we are going to be creating some glass jars. These are going to be rather small jars just for random things or whatever. Decoration. They look cool. This right here is what we're going to be making. It's just a tube, some color, and some clear. Then for the top, I used a cork. It gets the job done. It fits just about any hole. It can be shaped down. It's pretty sweet. That's what we're going to be making today. That's what we're going to focus on. "
