"In this segment, we are going to take a photograph, and we are going to transfer that image to the block. When, when choosing an image, you should look for general shapes that will be easy to translate and cut, using your tools on the surface of the wood. I use a lot of photographic imagery, but any image will, will suit this, as long as you break it down into simple shapes that are legible. We have to set the image down on a light table or using a window with the sunlight coming through and take another piece of paper and place it over the image. What I'm going to do here is just trace my image, it's a photograph that I've taken, just enough detail of this overpass, some lines in perspective that will eventually be transferred to the wood block, or the linoleum block. Ebony pencil or a six B pencil will work the best for this method. I'm going to be using a piece of wood because I love the wood grain and the surface of the wood will relate very well to the sky. I'm just placing enough information that will transfer. Notice how I've simplified this photograph into a series of simple lines that will then transfer to the wood."
