Setting up your work area to get going, what I do especially when I'm teaching classes is that I go to a paint--you know, like a hardware store and buy big rolls or paper that are used in the paint department, and they work perfect for covering your work surface so you don't get wax on a good table at home. And then what I like is to go get computer paper and the pin feed type that comes--you know, you can tear it off like that because when you're working on a surface and you're painting, you will get wax off the work surface on to this pad here and you're going to want to get a fresh sheet when you continue to work, so you don't pull the wax back onto your art piece. So it's important to always have a nice fresh surface to work and this is a simple way to do it. The thing about the iron, a handy little idea is to take your little finger and wrap it around the cord when you grab onto it, so that when you're working, you don't pull that cord across the wet--or let's say the warm wax and make a mark on it. if you're left-handed, it's a little trickier, you're going to need to take the cord and pull it up into the handle and if you're doing this on a long-term basis, cut a little notch out of the handle and pull it through and tape it so that this is going to be out of your way. The thing about the stylus is that it has a long cord and it seems like the cord is so heavy that it tends to pull your stylus off the table when you set it down. And this has a very soft brass point and it usually goes straight down to the floor point first and ruins the point, so what I do is that I tape a pencil onto the table like this and when I set the stylus down, I set it here and it catches it so it doesn't slide off the table.
