Series Summary

Since the dawn of time man has created images of people for both artistic purposes and to tell the story of the life they have lived. These human representations come in many forms, from cave drawings and painted portraits to sculptures and photographs. Sculpture is one of the most interesting forms of art because of the 3-D quality that lends itself to life like representations. Another aspect of sculpture that particularly appeals to artists is the variety of mediums that can be used for sculpture. Whether it is simple clay, plaster, marble or bronze, the artistic tools available to a sculptor are endless.

In this free video series, our expert artist will teach you how to sculpt a rabbit. You will get step by step instructions for this complicated sculpture from cutting the clay to making a base structure. You will also learn how to make the rabbit body shape and then add the head, ears, arms and tail. Finally, get tips on covering your rabbit sculpture with sculpture enamel and paint. If sculpture interests you and you want to learn how to make a rabbit or animal sculpture, let our expert show you everything you need to know for this fun art project.

"Hi. My name is Jorge Benllach. I'm a sculptor and today I'm going to try to show you how to do, like a garden craft. I'm going to try to make you copy some kind of a bunny like that. It's a three dimensional figure, we are going to make it that size approximately, that it's going to be okay looking in your terrace or in the garden anyway. We're going to use water base clay, and by the way, you can buy this water base clay in any art supplies. You know that's gray work they call gray clay. There is two kinds. There is the red one and the gray one. Both, they fire almost same, different cones of firing in the kiln but we are going to try to make one figurine that, if you don't put it outside, you don't need to fire it. If you put it outside in the garden, you have to fire it in the kiln. More or less, well, that's here whatever I show here, is what we're going use for to do that. We need the clay, we need the model, we need like, a support base, we need the piece of paper. This, always I use that. That’s a nice platform. It allows the model to turn. We are going to use a roller pin. We are going to use that cutting wire and those little pieces of wood, you know, to make the cuts of the clay even and some kind of cutting tools and it's very, very easy figure. I think you will enjoy it."
