"JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So we're going to move now to--we're gonna--we're still playing with our eighth notes the way that they're placed in the bar with the bass drum. We're going to do something a little different now, and this might be the first time you'll really feel like a big "feel" change, okay? This is going to sound maybe the most distinct out of pretty much everything we've done from the quarters and the hi-hat lifts and with these eighth notes so far, okay? So what's going to happen is we're going to play two eighth notes on beat one, so one-&. And then we're going to play another eighth note on the upbeat of two, okay? And then that's it. The bass drum rest for the rest of the bar, okay? So you have one-&, &, one-&, &, okay? Playing with the snare, it sounds like this. All right? You can probably feel that difference and it's because you may be thinking to yourself: It's because we're leaving out that beat three. All right? Everything so far has been very downbeat-oriented 'cause we've basically been playing every single downbeat--one, two, three, four--and adding stuff around that. This is the first time we're leaving out three, so you're going to have a significant change in the feel. So in this next clip, I'll go ahead and show you what the beat sounds like with the hi-hat, and we'll play it together."
