"JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So we're going to move on and do kind of something similar to what we were just doing. This is basically the mechanic analog. We're going to do a beat one by itself, and we're going to play beat three and then an upbeat of three, and then we're going to play on the upbeat of four, okay? So we'll shift around these eighth notes, get them to work for us. This is what just the kick and the snare. Just take a listen. We'll look at it in a minute. This is what it will be without the hi-hat, okay? All right? You hear where it's interacting with the snare, and you can imagine where it's going to sync up with the hi-hat."
