"JOEL SIEGEL: All right. So the next clip, we're going to do--mechanically, it's going to be similar to what we just did, which is the upbeat of two, putting that eighth note. Now we're going to stick to the eighth note on the upbeat of four, okay? So again, musically it'll sound very different; mechanically, the same factors are at play here, okay? So I'll play it for you, this is 70. Take a look at what's happening with my feet, my hands. Listen. All right? So I want you to go ahead and play along with me now. As far as the interaction, it's going to be the same thing. You're going to have that snare on four, and then you're going to have kind of picking off of that, the upbeat of four, the kick, and then landing again on one. All right? Again, lining up with your right hand playing those eighth notes on the hi-hat. I'll count you off. We're at 70 bpm. One, two, ready, play. All right? There you go: one and three quarter notes adding that eighth note on the upbeat of four."
