"JOEL SIEGEL: The last type of stroke that we want to do is the traditional upstroke. So, this, of course, again your left hand and same principle, starting down and then going up so you're goona end up here. The idea remains the same. Draw the sound out of the drum. It is going to be a breathy quiet sound. Exercising this stroke is actually good for developing your traditional grip cause it takes a lot of control and it requires that extension that a lot of times you're not going to necessarily paying much attention to. It really helps to isolate that and you can really work on drawing back your traditional grip back here, getting the rotation of your hand and your arm all along your forearm."
