"JOEL SIEGEL: Your French upstroke is going to sound like this. Your full. Your downstroke. Your American grip with the three strokes are going to sound like this. But keep in mind this is in the center of the drum. You can have the variations of rim-shots, off-center and the rim. We're starting with the upstroke. Lastly, here's your German grip doing the upstroke, down stroke and the full stroke. Again, the most important probably being the down stroke as this is where the drumming comes ahead and you get that power and that volume. Here's your upstroke. One more time, we'll illustrate. You have your traditional grip and you have the three strokes, starting with your upstroke."
