"JOEL SIEGEL: The last element of the rods when it comes to the snare drum that I want to talk about it's two things. The first is that rim click that we did with the stick. Just to remind you, it sounded like this. And again, you were able to get all sorts of different sounds. But the rods, it's a little bit of a different story because you don't have that solid wood, you're going to end up getting what might not be such a desirable sound. But again, it always just depends on the music. This is what it sounds like. You get that muffling from your hand being on the drum. You still--you can hear the snares and it doesn't have much attack because this plastic is what's hitting the rim instead of a wooden material. Now again, just like earlier, you can move around. Let's see what it sounds like when it's the wood and getting a deeper sound as we move the tip of the stick towards the center of the drum. Not a sound that I would personally use a whole lot. Again, these are all just options. These are just different colors that you're able to paint your sound with. The second aspect of the rim that I want to talk about with the rods is what we talked about earlier with the sticks. Just striking the rim of the snare drum, your tom, your bass drum, with these dowels and it's going to be, definitely going to be a different sound than you're going to get with the stick. I'll play it one more time for comparison. This is what sounds like with the rods. This is good for evoking light sounds, a lot of ambient stuff, again, you use it how you see fit."
