" Hi! I’m John Antonelli on behalf of Expert Village. In this video, we’re going to discuss how to construct an exercise I call 12_3 bucks. The meter of this exercise is 4-4 and spaced solely off of eighth notes. The first bar will be an entire bar of eighth notes played at 12 inches with the last stroke cushioned to 3 inches. Now notice, I’m not going to cushion to 1 inch like I normally would for eight on a hand. I’m going to cushion it 3 inches. That’s because in the next bar, I continue playing off my right hand. I just play 3 inch strokes for a full bar of eighth notes. The following bar is again, straight eighth notes, but it’s just like the previous exercise we just learned, to where the accents are 12 inches on the beat and the inner notes are at 3 inches. Putting it all together off the right hand, I’m going to play one bar 12, one bar 3, and then one bar buck. The exercise is then repeated off the left hand and then we can just continue good motion. Please check out our next video where we will be discussing the pitfalls of 12_3 bucks."
