"Hi my name is John Armstrong with expertvillage.com I'm a professional guitar instructor and today we are going to be discussing beginning classical guitar. Next I like to discuss a little bit about incorporating the use of the left, right hand together. First lets discuss a little bit about the left hand since we have not really talked about it yet. The left hand you want to keep the thumbs center behind the neck of the guitar. Hand, knuckles and hand out in front, finger tips curled as much as possible. This exercise that I will be giving you here today with the left hand would have different four string or four note groupings. The numbers correspond to both the fret as well as the finger. I will be doing some of these just doing it on different strings. There is no particular string that any of these exercise that need to be don on. It should be done on different strings. The right hand fingering for each form of grouping. Each exercise contains 5 four note groupings. The right hand picking would be I,M,A,M using rest strokes throughout. Very important that you use a rest stroke throughout. Here the first exercise starts off and I will just be doing this one on the first string or the high E string starts off 1,2,3, then 0,2,3, then 1,0,3,4 and then 1,2,0,4, and 1,2,3,0. The second exercises once again the right hand fingering would be exactly the same. We would start off 1,2,4,3,0,2,4,3,1,0,4,3,1,0,4,3,1,2,4,0,1,0,3. The third exercise I'm going to do on the third string will be 1,3,2,4,0,3,2,4,1,3,0,4,1,0,2,4,1,3,2, and 0. The fourth exercise 1,3,4,2,0,3,4,2,1,3,4,0,1,0,4,2,1,3,0,2. The fifth exercise 1,4,2,3,0,4,2,3,1,4,0,3, 1,4,2,0,1,0,2,3. And last but not least the sixth exercise which would be 1,4,3,2,0,4,3,2,1,4,3, 0,1,4,0,2,1,0,3,2. This is the first six exercises that would help you to incorporate the use of using rest strokes, using I,M,A,M on the right hand just getting your left hand use to fretting the notes on the classical guitar key. Even the thumb behind the neck of the guitar, fingers out in front of the guitar, fingertips curled. "
