"Hi! I’m John Armstrong with expertvillage.com. I’m a professional guitar instructor and today we’ll be going over the 12 string guitar. Okay, now another thing that is really cool on the 12 string guitar is using a capo. Now what a capo does. It’s a little clamp on device here that clamps on to fronts of the guitar and just raises the overall pitch of the instrument. For example, a 1, 4, 5 in the key of C. A C as in G. If I was to capo at let’s say the fourth fret and play those same chords shapes. Now actually I’m raising the chord progression up 2 whole steps, so it’s going to be an E chord now instead of a C. Yeah. If I was to do it at the seventh fret for example, the same chord progression. This can be a cool trick using the 12 string guitar to use the capo to get you some really high mandolin on those sounds out of it. Very high sounding instrument at that point. So the capo can be a useful tool when playing the 12 string. "
