"JOE WILES: In this video segment, we're going to take a look at "B.Y.O.B." by System of a Down. All right, for this song, we're going to want to flat all our strings to--actually, this is going to be D flat, A flat, D flat again, G flat, B flat and E flat. This riff can be done with a standard-tuned guitar, but no, it won't match up to my guitar, okay? So all my strings are tuned flat, plus this is dropped down to D, the low E string, D and then flat again. If none of that makes sense, just keep your guitar in standard tuning and follow my finger positions, okay? The song starts off on the 7th fret of the D string, okay? We're going to hit it and then we're going to pull our finger off. You noticed how I did that without moving my right hand at all? It's called a pull-off. Okay? Then I'm going to ride that open string for a while. Then I'm going to answer by going--instead I'm going to pull-off, hit the open string, 8th fret then twice on the 7th fret. That's basically the only two frets you'll have to worry about for the introduction to this song. I'm going to play it slowly for you. So if you didn't quite catch that, pay attention. This is the 7th fret; this is the 8th fret, take a look. Okay, now the last one, watch my finger positions. We're going to go back and forth a little more between these. On the 4th run through that riff, it sounds like this. All right. To speed, that same riff sounds like this. That's a really hard riff to play to speed, but it's a great exercise no matter what speed you play it at. But if you want to build and increase your speed, start slowly and evenly and work your way up till it's fast as System of a Down does it. In our next segment, we're going to take a look at number 17, which is "Can't Stop" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I'll see you there."
