"JOE WILES: Hi, this is Joe with the Rock and Roll Conservatory. On behalf of Expert Village, in this segment, we're taking a look at "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden. The effects on your guitar--you're going to want your guitar clean. And if you don't have a big arsenal of effects processors and stuff, don't worry too much about it, the riff is still cool just as a clean guitar. But if you do want to get--it's a chorus and some delay on there. Anyway, let's go to the guitar and take a look. Okay, the first thing we need to do is drop our guitars down to Drop-D tuning. Basically, we take our low E-string and we drop it down to a D note. To do that, we'll hit the low E-string and this D-string and we'll match the pitch. The riff begins on the 5th fret. We're going to bar the lowest four strings with our index finger. It sounds like this. We're going to take our pinkie, put it on the 8th fret of the low E-string, then we're going to come down to the 3rd fret, bar the lowest three strings with our index finger, but we're going to put our pinkie on the 5th fret of the G-string. Open to 2nd fret with our index finger and then our pinkie on the 4th fret here of the G-string. Down to the 1st fret, we're barring all four strings here with our index finger. Then we're going to go open on the E-string, 3rd fret with our ring finger on the A-string, open D-string, and then 2nd fret of the G-string with our middle finger. Slowly, that riff sounds like this. There we go with that ring. To speed that riff sounds like this. And that's "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden. In our next segment, we're going to take a look at the Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop". I'll see you there."
