We've got the beat pretty much to "Give it Away", we're just going to do one of the fills that Chad Smith is doing at the top of the tune. Pretty much just going into the verse from the intro. I'll just play it for you real quick, I'll play the beat, I'll play the fill for you. Alright? Pretty rocking fill, what exactly is going on? You have the first two beats, it's like a one bar fill, so it's going to take all four beats of the bar. Your first two beats are fairly simple to the variating you just have those eighth notes. Right? So, one and two. That's the first three notes. Three, four. (one and two) Three, four. Then, what happens in the upbeat of two, in order to learn it what you want to play is 16th notes on two, and accent the down beat of two, and the upbeat of two, and the 'a' of two. So, the first right, the second right, and the second left of those four 16th notes. (demo) So, here's the first two beats of the five. Once you can play that. I'll play it a little slower. (demo) OKay? Once you can play that try doing, instead of that little tap that's in there on the E of two? Try doing a drag going into that upbeat. That's what's happening. He does like a really subtle little roll to where it at full speed it sounds like this. Just sneaks in there. OKay? Slow. (demo) This is a good opportunity to practice your drags. (demo) That's what's happening on the first two beats, work that up to speed, take some time getting that drag in there. Nice and subtle, nice and soft, it's just barely in there. (demo) We'll look at the second half of the bar in this next clip.
