"My name is Jesus Cardoso, and I’m going to teach you how many guitarist are enough. Basically, when you’re in the recording session and you want to have a little more presence, a little more punch, it’s not always a good thing to keep adding guitars. A very personal approach that I have that has worked very good in the things that I have done is that when I have, let’s say a rock band, I record two distorted guitars. One goes pan to the left; one goes pan to the right. Then I try to add no more distortion guitars. I can either have one or have two panned; no more than that. Some people believe that by adding dozens of guitars the mix will sound huge. The problem with that is that it will actually start cancelling and become like this mud of sound. Just keep it simple, and make sure instead that your guitarist sound great. Use more than one mic. Use different approaches. Use room mics to give a little more presence to the cabinet that you’re recording, and then try ___ with different sound and guitars; put an acoustic guitar, put a clean electric guitar, or put guitar doing different things. Maybe different octaves or doing different figures; that way your mix will sound much bigger and better. "
