"Hi! My name is Jesus Cardoso, and I’m going to explain a little on how to put together a recording session, in the case that your recording let’s say a rock band. The setup is very simple. You have drums, one or two guitars, the bass, and the vocal. The way that you want to prepare to your session is make sure that you have enough time in the studio to record everything. If you book time into a studio, especially if it’s a popular one, you might actually lack the time to finish your recording and that could carry a lot of trouble because probably there’s going to be someone waiting outside of the door by the time that you’re done with your hours. It is key for you to know your people. If you know the band and you know that they’re not really used to the whole recording scene and they might be great on the stage, but on the studio they take their time, always make sure that you’re generous on the time and the studio. Not only for them to record, but also for the engineers to set every single microphone and to put all the sound correct before the takes start rolling in. Once you actually get through the booking of the studio and you get enough time, try to record the whole band together. It’s a very personal choice, but it’s what works the best most of the times because bands are meant to always play together. Bands are these groups of people that work in a single environment and they connect to each other. Talking about this, instead of recording all the instruments, which would take much more time, it’s best to put them all together, let them communicate, let them do their magic all at the same time, and then finish the studio time as fast as possible in the recording and get to the mixing.
