"Hi! This is Jim Goettler with Expert Village. This is a video about how to produce a small community festival. In this segment, I am going to talk about volunteers which are the basic core of any community festival. I strongly recommend that you select one person out of your core group to be your volunteer coordinator. That person's job is to be go into the community and get the folks, find the folks, talk to the folks who would like to help you put on the festival. People will be needed for everything from parking, acting as hosts, to be runners, to be security, you name it, you are going to need a volunteer to do it. Finding volunteers is a real treat. You can use free bulletin boards that usually exist in a college town and post it on the board. Often businesses have community resource department that will work with non-profit organizations to get hours and they donate hours based on the need of the corporation needing a volunteer group. So I suggest check around everywhere. One of the enticement for volunteers of course are the old perks besides giving you the hospitality tent drinking water all day. Sometimes fairs give away nice little lamanets which are really great perk for a lot of people. One thing you can always do is give away lamanets. I love to give away. I've got hundreds of these on my walls. Lamanets cost about a penny a piece. Folks love them, will wear them at parties, what not. Also T-shirts are a great thank you for volunteers so that people can see they are into the event, it's advertised for you all year round. I would not under any condition skip ways to thank your volunteers. They are your festival. The next segment is going to be about publicity or getting the word about your festival. Stay with us. "
