How to Obtain Permits for a Community Festival

"Hi! My name is Jim Goettler with Expert Village and this is a video about how to produce a small community festival. In this segment, I am going to touch briefly on one of the most difficult parts for many people producing a festival and that is getting the permits you need in order to hold in most urban areas. Most cities and most counties have what is called permitting schemes and this is a way that the civil authorities and you can work together to get your permits so that you can hold your event. There is generally a uniform way about doing this. You may have to call the city hall or your county offices and just inquire about who you need to talk to to get a permit to hold a festival and then stay with that person throughout the process. Most of the time you will need to work through departments; maybe fire departments or land department or transportation department that you need to work with. Work with them carefully and be very respectful through the process and keep in mind that most of these folks want your event to happen and they want it to happen really well. They just want to be sure that all the basis are covered. In the next segment, we are going to touch the other most difficult part of the process for many and that is insurance and getting get good insurance. "
