" Hello! My name is Jim Sivard on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’d like to show you how to perform the first note on a bass clarinet and to tune that note if necessary. Now, we have the instrument totally assembled. We have the mouthpiece on the neck, the neck on the body of the instrument. We blow across the reed without any fingers touching the instrument, and that note is our G towards the upper part of the lower register. Now, that note is slightly flatter sharp. We can flatten it by moving the mouthpiece out not more than 3/16 of an inch or so. Or in more radical situations, we can also move the neck out about an 1/8 of an inch. Now, to facilitate tuning, in modern times we have an electronic tuner, which can hear your note and with this meter, you can position your note in relation to a concert tuning. That was bout tuning and producing the first note on your bass clarinet. "
