How to Play "Sugar, We're Going Down" on the Guitar

The first thing we're going to do, drop down to D on your low E string. You should match your D string up here--so it should be the same, okay? The song kicks off just wide open. Then take your index finger and pad across all three of the lowest strings. Slide it up to the 9th fret and then back to the 5th fret. Just open-5-9-5, okay? Slowly, it sounds like this. Twice in a row. Now, notice, between each set of riffs, I'm giving it a four count mute on the strings, which is basically I take my left hand here, lay it across the strings like so and hit the low three strings five times or four times--okay?
