When it comes to developing film you've got two major options. The first and easiest option is to take you film and drop it off at a local photo store, where they'll process the negatives and make the prints for you. Often giving you prints and negatives in return when your done. Now the alternative to this is to develop your own film and prints in a dark room. It's a much more complicated system but it can be very rewarding, it can actually teach you a lot about the entire process. Not everyone's lucky enough to have their own darkroom in their home, but most communities do have a community dark room and/or classes that you can take that'll enable you to use a darkroom. I got my introduction to serious photography in using a darkroom and we had to develop our own film and believe there were many times where I let to much light in and exposed my film, or didn't use the right balance of chemicals and got the wrong results. I really do accredit working in the darkroom to a lot of my knowledge of photography and my understanding and my approach of photography, because when you see the entire process from developing your film to then putting your prints, or using your film to make prints and going through the different steps with the chemicals. You really see the entire process and it makes you more conscience of the light and of the shadows and even of your composition, because in the darkroom you can also do a lot of cropping and zooming in on things. Again, obviously you can take your film and have it developed by someone else but if you really want to gain a strong understanding of photography, I encourage you to find a darkroom in your community and see about using it and developing your own film to making your own prints. It'll really open your eyes up to the entire process of photography and knowing the whole process from start to finish, I think will help you create stronger images.
