"A 35mm camera is more often than not what you are going to run into when you are looking at cameras. 35mm refers back to the standard film that is still used today if you were to go out and buy a typical roll of film. It creates images in the 4 x 6 format, such as this one. Even though new digital cameras don't even use film anymore, their still considered a 35mm camera because of the size of the image that they produce. My Digital SLR is a 35mm camera. Again, despite not using any film, it takes images in the 4 x 6 format so it's considered a 35mm camera. They are a great place to start. They've got a wide range and you can use them to shoot all sorts of scenarios and they are probably what most people are familiar with, having the horizontal and vertical view finder and shooting images at the 4 x 6 and 8 x 12 size; things of that nature. Again, the 35mm camera is going to be the standard camera you'll more often than not run into, but there are some other options out there. The 35mm is a good place to start and probably what you are most familiar with. "
