"Focus and depth of field are really closely related. You need to understand what sort of depth of field you're working with when taking a photograph. You'll notice in this landscape photograph, it's a mountain scene; I wanted to show everything from the little village at the bottom, to the trees on the side, to the mountain in the background. The only way to get them all in focus was to have a large enough depth of field that it allowed for me to focus on all of these images. So an important rule to remember when you're trying to get many objects and various depths of field all in focus on one image is of course to have a wide enough depth of field, but also to check each thing. So again, when I took this photograph, I made sure I had the right depth of field, I'm looking through my viewfinder, I look down at the little homes, I make sure they're in focus. I look over to the trees, make sure the leaves are in focus. Finally I look to the mountains in the background to ensure that they were in focus. And having them all in three in focus, to me, is what created this image."
