"It's important that after you've taken your photographs, you understand the best way to transfer them from your memory card to your computer. You've got two basic options. The first is a card reader. In order to use a card reader, you would take your memory card out of the camera. The card reader is hooked into the USB or FireWire port on the computer, and you plug the card directly into the card reader, and it will appear on your computer as an external hard drive, or something of that nature. Another option is to hook your camera directly to the computer. This is what I tend to do because I don't have a card reader. Most digital cameras will come with a USB cord, like this. You plug it in, connect it directly to your computer. Make most cameras come with the software that's required to make sure that your camera is compatible with your computer. It's important to check the system requirements that the computer program will have before you purchase, because you want to make sure that your camera and your computer are going to be compatible. Another thing to think about is what to do with your images once they're on your computer. A lot of cameras will come with a basic image editing software or image viewing software, but most people like to step it up a little bit from the standard stuff that comes with the camera, and invest in something like Adobe Photoshop, which is a very professional program used to edit photographs, and make color adjustments, and things of that nature. Before you get heavily invested in a digital camera, you need to make sure that you're going to have a way to transfer these images from your camera to your computer, either by way of a card reader, or directly linking with a USB or a FireWire."
