"JAMES MENY: So let's talk about larynx postioning. There are certain vowels just because of the nature of the vowel that pull the larynx up and certain vowels that pull it down. Remember when we talked about singing or speaking in a neutral zone or a relaxed position, okay. If you pulled the larynx up, something happens and if you pulled the larynx down something happens. Most commonly in legit voice they're going to tell you about pulling your larynx down. And there is a good reasoning for that. Most people, when they go up a scale the larynx goes up and if you put your fingers on your neck and you swallow, you're going to feel that your larynx go up. It will go up and then back out. If you yawn, you will feel it will go down and back up. So swallowing makes it go up. Yawning makes it go down."
