"Alright now we're going to talk about getting a featured artist like when you want another artist to feature on your record. First of all, you want to pick a artist who is going to help your record, not hurt your record. Which means...Okay you have a friend you're going to feature on your record, that's one thing. Understandable. Do that. In fact, I push that. But if you're going to feature another artist on your record you don't want to pick a artist who the consumer hates. Why would you pick a artist everybody hated? You see what I'm saying? You want to pick a artist that'll help your record that you think could improve your record. Somebody used to tell me, "Only call people to feature on songs that you think can make the song a better song than it was before they got on it." You want somebody to add to your song not take away from it. And for namesake sometimes you want to get people with names. If you got a opportunity to feature Justin Timberlake on the chorus of your song, it's a no-brainer to get Justin Timberlake on the chorus of your song just so your record says: "featuring Justin Timberlake". But also keep in mind when you have the featured artist how you let them do on your record because you don't want people to start to assume that it's their record. Then they'll completely take the spotlight from you. You want people to always look at it as your record, featuring such and such, not such and such's song. Because we've seen a lot of good songs get mixed up and actually been stolen from artists because the feature artist came and did so much to the record. He took the record."
