"FREDERICK BURCHELL: Hello, my name is Frederick "Ricky B." Burchell with [PH] B4 Entertainment on behalf of Expert Village and today, we're going to talk about producing, manufacturing, marketing, and distributing your independent CD. Now let's first talk about finding an investor, budgeting and an executive producer. What we call in the music business an "executive producer" is what we call the investor--what they call in a business world "investor." Now what this person does they basically pay for the whole CD. It's like okay how do you find an investor? Well that's good, I'm glad you asked because the first thing you need to do is put your budget together that's why we talked about budget, investing, and an executive producer. You've got to put your budget together and in your budget, you gotta allow how much it's going to cost you to produce the record. Okay, you got a certain budget for producing, then you got to see how much it's going to cost to manufacture the CDs that you're going to be putting out. Then also you gotta see how much you gotta spend to make the marketing happen. Now, I suggest whatever you spend for your production, you need to spend on your marketing because marketing is how the record sells. If you have no marketing you can have a good production, you can have good manufacturing, but if you have no marketing then your record it's not going to sell. So I suggest whatever you budget for your marketing--you budget that the same amount, if not more, for your marketing, the same amount that your production is. Then also you gotta do, the last and final thing, is distribution. Where can they pick up your product? So when you're looking at budgeting your project and you're trying to find an investor, those are the four aspects that you gotta touch when you present it to an investor so you can get an executive producer to pay for your whole record. And once you do all that then everything is smooth sailing."
