Choosing Projection Areas for 16mm Films

"Hi! I am Grady Johnson with Karma Train Productions and today I am talking a little about 16 mm film and I am representing Expert Village.com. Well, I am about ready to setup my projection screen but before I do that I have got to choose my area. Now this is very important because a lot of times there are obstacles in between that we might not think about, anything like furniture, lamp or couch or anything obstructing your view, because this is a projection. Now you want to be sure that your projector isn’t too close because if it’s too close the image is going to be very, very small and conversely if you move it way too far back it’s going to get really big and it’s going to kind of lose some of the qualities, it’s going to get grainy. So you want to pick a good even distance; somewhere between 4-6 paces depending on how big your step is. You are going to know where that spot is, so if you get tired of marking it off just mark it with a piece of tape that you will always remember. For me though with my projector 4 or 5 steps are usually be alright, I have a kind of a small gait. One, two, three, four, and that’s just about right for my camera. Once you have marked off that distance, setup your table where you want it and then get to your height. Now when you figure out what that is roughly, then you want to walk off your screen and set that up where you wanted. Once you got that then you are ready to go ahead and setup your screen and then line up the projection with the camera."
