"I'm going to be demonstrating quarter notes on the high hat. I'll do that for four measures, then I'll add the snare drum in for four measures, then I'll add in the bass drum in for four measures. Keep in mind, as a drummer, you're the timekeeper of the band, you should count everything you do. When I tour and play in live situations, everything I do, I count. So it definitely helps you, as a drummer, to count everything, being the timekeeper of the band. So, here, let's start off with the quarter notes on the high hat, adding the snare, then the bass drum. 1, 2, 3, 4.... That was quarter notes on the high hat, with the snare and the bass drum added as I went on through the performance."
