"Now we are talking about tuning slides. Tuning slides is pretty much what it sounds like. Slides that move in and out that make more air pass through and thereby lowering the tone of the instrument or shortening it and raising the tone. Each one of these slides corresponds to a valve so that when you're playing the instrument these can be fine tuned for the player depending on the tonality that is chosen. Temperature and all these other things affect these instruments. You are always doing a little bit of fine tuning on certain things to tune. These valves come out like that. They should also be cleaned and maintained. This is a pretty good old instrument that's been well maintained. You can tell. The tuning slides are important to get into the instrument to clean it and the fine tuning of the instrument. I don't know if you will be able to hear, but if I back this off; slightly flatter. I don't know if you could tell exactly the whole flatness, but that was slightly flatter because more air is passing through. These are the tuning slides."
