How to Reinforce Piano Lessons to Kids

Series Summary

If those piano lessons for your young kids don’t seem to be sinking in, don’t despair. Perhaps they just need a little extra attention to get them started, a different approach to help the lessons take hold. Each child is different, as is their approach to learning. Just because they can’t play “Row, Row Your Boat” the first day you show it to them doesn’t mean that they won’t be the star of a recital someday.

In this free series of free piano lesson videos, our expert teacher Hope Wells helps you troubleshoot the music education process. She demonstrates easy ways to reinforce concepts such as counting and note-reading to children. You will also learn how to encourage your young student to learn the keys of the keyboard and play with both hands. And should these reinforcement techniques still not have any affect on your child, well…why not just let them go play tag with their friends.

I've been doing a series of episodes on how to teach piano and today's episode is about what to do when they're not getting it, which is something that happens a lot. My background in music comes from a woman in Van Wert or Convoy, Ohio which is much smaller than Van Wert Ohio, Convoy, Ohio has fifteen hundred people on a good day and that's the town I went to school in. Elementary school, High School, and Junior High which is all in one building in Convoy, Ohio. I learned to play the piano there I started when I was seven. I studied at Otterbein college under Dr. Michael Haberkorn who is a graduate of the Juilliard School and of Columbia University. I also studied music in New York at American Musical and Dramatic Academy however that was not piano, that was music in general, specifically how to make music sound cool to people who are listening to it. One of the reasons I am excited to teach you how to teach piano is because giving the gift of music is so amazing, whether it is on the piano or whether it's singing or learning how to listen to it or playing another instrument or playing rhythm, all of these things can give you so much joy in your life.
