"Now I just talked to you about letting this set up until it is leather hard. It is best to do it naturally for a few hours or so but I am impatient so I am going to use a torch. This is a good way to speed up the process in clay if you need to move to the next step. Now I have put it on a banding wheel which spins and I have centered it. I will just spin this piece and move the flame up the piece slowly and back down and I will continue doing this with the torch until this piece has reached the leather hard stage. As long as you do this evenly and you don't let the flames stay on any one piece of the part for too long it is not going to hurt it. Now if you take your torch and hold it against one part of your vase for a long period of time you are going to crack your vase right off, right open. So you do need to be very consistent and patient with the torch."
