Video: Extruding Clay Handles

So now I'm ready to actually extrude the handles for my batter bowl. It's good to go ahead and get yourself a board or something else that you can lay the handles out onto once they're extruded, but that's portable that helps a lot. We've already prepared our clay to go in the extruder. So the first thing you want to do before you put your clay into the extruder is make sure that the dye that you selected is lined up and that when you go to extrude it's going to come out without getting cut off by the edge of the holder or the edge of the dye selector or anything like that. Then, you take the plunger and move it off to the side and just drop the clay right in there. Raise the plunger and drop the plunger in on top of the clay. Now it's going to take a couple of pushes before the clay starts coming out the hole and the reason for that is because our cylinder of clay was smaller than the anterior of this so it's smushing down to be a cylinder that fits, and once you've got it ready you want to go very slowly. It's starting to come out now, and just very slowly extrude that piece of handle. And once it's about the length of the board you're using you want to gently cup the bottom side of that and lay it out. If it's a little too long you can pinch it off and set that aside. Now you're just going to keep extruding everything that's in here, lay it out on the board. It's a lot more than you need for this project, but you can save these handles for use on another project as long as you keep them covered in plastic.
