"Okay, with something this wide that I've just thrown, when I left up this bat, it's going to bend the lip a little bit. And I don't want that to happen. I want this to remain very round. So my way of dealing with that is to torch the pot to make it a little firmer. I've already taken my measurement. You need to take your measurement before you torch, because if you do your measurement after you torch, your clay will have already shrunken a little bit. And your lid won't be the right size. So make sure you take your measurement while it's still very wet. And then, once you've taken your measurement, you can take your torch, turn the wheel very slowly, and just hold the torch to the body. You want to do this long enough that it becomes a little bit firm. You don't want to dry it completely out, that's not the point. It's just to keep it circular when you're moving it around. So, maybe a minute or two minutes. And make sure you move down the pot as you torch, and back up, so that the whole thing gets an even torching. And when we're done with that, we can take it off, and begin the lid."
