"Now, if you have a slab roller which I do you can get extremely consistent slabs. And, that's one of the reasons why I like to use mine. You still need to stretch the clay out a bit on the surface of your table before you take it to your slab roller. I like to have it no more than about three times as thick as what I'm going to eventually end up with. And, it only needs to be long. It doesn't need to be stretched out the other way, because the slab roller is going to be doing the work in the other direction. So, once you've got it close to the width of the slab roller you're using it's good to go ahead and pat along the edge and make that really thin. That gives the slab roller a place to start without having to jump over a big thick edge in the beginning. So, now I've got my clay ready and I'm going to put it through the slab roller."
