Series Summary

Cosmetic makeup has been used for years to enhance the natural beauty of women around the world. When used on stage or in a movie, makeup takes on a role of its own. Special effects makeup can be as simple as a cut on the face or as complicated as full-body character makeup. With the help of stage makeup and costumes, you can bring a character to life. This is why it is important to know the techniques of applying stage makeup. With some professional instruction, anyone can learn the art. All it takes is some time and practice.

One skill of stage makeup artists can transform the same actor through years of life. Video Transcript

"Hi I'm Erin, and you're watching Expert Village, and today we are going to start on a old age look for theater. Okay, to start off our old age make up today, we're going to have to start by taking a look at our tools. So first off let's look at some of the application tools that we're going to be using. I've got two different brushes here, one of them is a slightly smaller, angular brush, this will be used for putting on either the shadow or the highlighter. This also is a thin brush- not angular though, and I'll probably actually use this one for the highlighter. Let's see. . . we also have our sponge here, always need you cosmetic sponge, angular. We've got our foundation here, we're using a combination of the two. We've got two different colors here, that I've mixed in, I've mixed in a little bit darker because you know, she's going to, the old age make up does need a little bit darker- so I'll get into that later. But we're also going to have our highlighter, which is going to be cream based, and is a white make up. And we're also going to use one of our derma pallets, dark colors, probably this brown here, to be our shadow. And, once again, you'll need your pallet, and your spatula, and you're going to need your loose powder to pack in all the color."
