"Now when you are photographing a newborn, there are definitely some considerations. For example; a newborn can't really move around and some people think that that might make for a kind of a boring photograph. But you can do a lot of wonderful things with newborns. What I really like to do is take the more artistic approach which is totally easy for you to do at home and go ahead and take off that diaper and let them just be butt naked. But put them on a really nice black background. A lot of times what I will use is a black blanket that might have some texture, like a soft chenille blanket or even a black bedding sheet or piece of fabric. Or you can also use a towel. Like this is just a nice white bath towel. So depending on the child's skin tone, you can go ahead and lay them on that. This is a black piece of fabric that I have just picked up over at the fabric store and it is really nice and it doesn't reflect very much light and a little newborn body looks fantastic on it. So you can take some time and zoom in on their hands, or their feet and get those kinds of pictures and those are really amazing. Also thinking about wardrobe, you can have the parent in the photograph wearing all black and just have their hands coming in and touching the baby or kind of moving the baby with the natural light that you are using. So you can get fantastic studio light portraits just by standing near a window and using your black fabric."
