Series Summary

Hip hop dancing covers a large range of styles and specific moves and techniques, but the cornerstone of the style is undoubtedly break dancing. Over time, that so-called old school way of dancing and participating in hip hop culture has evolved into many different off-shoots. Funk dancing, popping and locking, jigging, freaking, krump, and hyphy are examples of types of hip hop dance, and each style contains certain moves that distinguish it from other forms. Many people take hip hop dance lessons, and although some people believe that teaching orchestrated steps is contrary to the roots of the culture and history of hip hop dance, many people benefit from taking lessons.

In this free dance video series, a professional instructor will teach you numerous advanced hip hop funk dance move. She will show you how to do chug with kick, bowling with a pop, roll to the floor and shootout, jazz split to tummy and crawl with knee lunge. You will also learn how to knee spin with head roll, floor roll and body roll up, mambo with flick kick, hand clasp drop and flick with chainé turn. Finally, you will learn how to do walk through with jump snaps, heel ball walk, pancake chug with body roll, and slide to the floor and push off.

"Hi, I'm Emily Larew and we are continuing on with our Hip Hop combination. So, we are doing a Hip Hop choreography Funk. Now this can be added to the previous segment, but you can just do this on your own as well. Another good song to use with this would be maybe if you would like to Rihanna's um, "Please Don’t Stop the Music,” is a great one. It's nice and funky and we're doing Hip Hop Funk. So, here we go. We're going to start with, we would have just finished, if you choose to add it to the last one, we would have finished it with eight. You're going to step on your left foot and we're going to go, one. We're going to Kick and Chug towards the last corner and we're going to go, two, Kick and Chug, jump. Alright, Kick, Chug, jump. So, seven and eight, you have a one, two, three then you're going to step, balls change and four. Ok. Our hands are going to be like we're reeling in a rope and we're going to go, one, two, three. Alright, so you're going to pull it in and pull it in, every time, every count. Ready, seven and eight, one, two, three and I'm using my shoulders. Three, four, there you go. So left, left, we were left up when the left arm is up. Alright, and then we're just going to drop it, and four. Good, let's make it sharp. Ready? Five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three and four. Nice. Those were your Kicks with your Chugs."
