"Next you're going to want to go ahead and open this up. The way you're going to do that is by taking your left index finger and pushing down into the center of the clay while it spins and pull out towards your right hand which is stabilizing. I'm also pushing down on the rim with my right hand to keep that nice and even and to compress it. Now I've left kind of a thick amount here in the bottom to start with. I'm going to check with my needle tool to see how thick it is. It's about an inch still. Now the reason why I did that was because for this double walled bowl, there is actually going to be an inner support, kind of support rod, if you would, that holds up the inner bowl. Because it's not going to go down as deep as the outer bowl. So I'm going to leave a little pad of clay in the center that I can make that out of and then I'm going to go ahead and make the floor around it about a quarter of an inch thick. And again, I can check with my needle tool. It will leave a little smudge of clay, and I'll be able to tell how thick it is. Then I'll take my hard metal rib, and compress the floor. That smooths it out and also makes it stronger. Now once I've got that done I'm really to make my little column in the center."
