A method of making interesting items in clay that's been around for a really long time, is to make double wall pieces. This piece here is two bowls that have been attached together at the rim, so that it looks like a very thick piece, but in fact it's hollow, and you can see I've made some decorative cut outs in it, and it's very light to pick up, even though it looks very substantial and heavy. And there's a lot of really interesting things that you can do by employing this method. So I'm going to show you just a basic double walled bowl, and like I said this method can be extended to whatever your imagination, wherever it can take you. For this particular example, the outer bowl is going to be about 2 1/4 pounds, so that's about 2 1/4 pounds. I'm going to ball this up. And the inner bowl is going to be about a pound and a half, so I'll ball that up as well, and then we can take it over to the wheel and start the project.
