"Now like I said you can roll out all of your coils by hand or you can use an extruder, I'm going to show you how to do that. The first thing you're going to need to do before you extrude your clay, is to prepare your clay for the extruder, which is basically a giant Play dough factory is all it really is. And my extruder has a 4inch round barrel, some of them are square, some of them are larger barrels than that. So based on the extruder that you're using, cut a piece of clay, that's similar in size and shape to the barrel. And like I said, mine is round, so I'm going to hit this on the table, to round out those corners a little bit, and then just kind of smack it and pat it into shape. I want this cylinder to be more narrow than the extruder itself so that this clay will slide in their real nicely, and won't get caught whenever I'm slipping it into the extruder barrel. So once you've got this, you're ready to move over to your extruder and start making your coils."
