Now often when you're making pottery pieces you want to end up with matching sets. Like these salad bowls here. They're all the same diameter and they're all the same height. And they nest really nicely with each other. Now the way that you do that is by using a pointer so that you can throw your clay to the exact same height and width. But before we get to that you also need to have the same weight of clay for every piece that you're making if you're trying to make them match. In this case I'm going to throw some bowls that are a little smaller than these, and I'm going to use a pound and a quarter worth of clay. Really great to have a kitchen scale in your studio. So there's a pound and a quarter. Want to take that and ball it up into a nice round ball. And that one, wow. That was lucky. Exactly a pound and a quarter. So get as many of these balls prepared as however many pieces you want your matching set to be. And then you can go over to the wheel and get going.
