Video: Clay Pottery Wax Dipping

Now, once your paraffin wax is nice and melted, you do want to have a couple of brushes that you've dedicated just to the wax. You're never going to be able to use these for anything else ever again. So, dedicate a couple of brushes to your wax pan and they need to be nice and melted too, before you get going. The first way to wax, make sure that the, oh it's fine. Yes. Definitely. Yes. Definitely. Now, the wax is nice and hot, we're ready to do some waxing. So, you do want to have a couple of brushes in your wax pan you're going to have to take a couple of brushes that you dedicate only to your wax. You're never going to be able to use these for anything else ever again, so just consider them wax brushes. Your wax itself, you want it to be no more than about a quarter of an inch deep, and the reason for this is the first way to wax your pieces is by dipping directly into the pan. Now what you want to do, my wax is not one hundred percent level, and it rarely will be. You want to take the pot and lean it into the deepest part of the wax first, and then tilt it towards the shallow end of the pool. Then you want to turn it around gently so that you don't create any splashes and let the wax be excess wax, just drip right off. This wax is going to cool pretty quickly and it's going to be firm to the touch, and what it's going to do is repel the glaze from this part of the pot. The reason why this is important is because like I said, the glaze turns to glass in the kiln. And the bottom of your pot will fuse directly to your kiln shelf if you don't perform this step.
