"I make a quieter sound and the related horn family to the trombone is the Euphonium valve trombone family. The instrument company, King, that makes this wonderful slide trombone makes a valve trombone which is upright, and they call it a trombonium. It’s a more confidential, quieter, sweeter sound. Some marching bands use this so they don't clunk one another with breaking their slides as they march. JJ Johnson and K. Winderbury, great Jazz players used this on two or three albums. The trombonium. And there's seven basic positions on the trombone, and there's seven basic positions with a three valve horn, which could be a trumpet or a euphonium, or the trombonium. Open, descending middle, to first valve, first and second, second and third, first and third, and finally first second and third. The tone is a little different, to teach you the difference between trombone and the related valve trombone family. So that's the difference between the slide trombone and the valve trombone."
