"Paul Gauguin who was the contemporary of many famous 19th century artists such as Monet, Manet, Delacroix, created another different style, another reaction to the strict rules of the Art Academy of France. He wanted to get away of the civilization of Europe as much as possible because he felt more comfortable in a remote place. He moved therefore to Tahiti where started depicting the local people. Depicted them with the vivid, colorful dresses, depicted the beautiful natural colors of that environment, and depicted them and the objects in general in such a way that they look flat though but expressive enough because of the use of many colors. On purpose he developed simple style. His followers later developed his style into what we call Primitivism. Primitivism is about simple style, simple art lines and a lot of colors."
