The painting was made in the first two decades of the 17th century; quite precisely around 1622. And this is the period of the Golden Age in Spanish art that lasted from mid-16th to mid-17th centuries. One of the most famous artists of this period is Velazquez, who was a court painter as well and as a court painter to Phillip IV, a Spanish king, he had many commissions.
