"Hi, my name is Elissa with Expert Village and today I'm going to show you how to crochet a beanie. Now that I've shown you how to start crocheting in a sprial, I'm going to show you how to add some stitches to your spiral beanie. If you'll notice on our beanie right here, your beanie is going to be very wide at one point and then get narrower at the end. And if we were just to continue crocheting in a spiral, we'd end up with more of a tube sock than a beanie. So, what we're going to do is add stitches so it gradually gets wider and wider as we go down and then later I'll teach you how to subtract stitches to keep it narrow at the bottom. So, now that we've made a few single crochet stitches in our spiral, we're going to add some stitches so that is can grow and grow into the shape of the beanie that we want. So get a good grip on your yarn by pulling it with your pinkie, put the yarn over your index, and hold your stitch with your middle and thumb. So now we've just made a stitch in this stitch right here and we're going to go ahead and do another one so we can add some stitches. So you're going to put your hook through the same stitch that your previous stitch was made through. Put your hook in front of the yarn, behind the yarn, and pull it through the first loop, in front of the yarn, behind the yarn, and pull it through both loops. So now we have two stitches coming out of one stitch, right here. So now we'll move on to the next stitch and we'll put our hook through the stitch and put your yarn in front of the yarn, behind the yarn and pull it through the first hook and then pull it through both hooks and then we're going to stitch again in that same stitch right here. So now we're adding two stitches where we used to do one stitch, instead of one and that way this will grow wider and wider as you go around. So, now we're going to the second stitch, in front of the yarn, behind the yarn and pull it through, and then pull it through both loops. An then we're going to do another stitch in that same hole right there. So continue around doing two stitches where you would do just one stitch. And that way we're get a nice curve for the top of your beanie. Okay, so put the hook through the stitch, in front of the yarn, behind the yarn and pull it through and pull it through both loops and then do the exact same thing in the same stitch. So now you can see we're starting to get a flatter circle as opposed to a curved up egg shape. We're going to get a flatter circle all the way around. So you'll continue to do double stitches where you would do one stitch for the whole crown of the beanie, just to about this point where it starts straightening out. After you make the curve right here, then your'e going to start subtracting stitches to keep it narrow at the bottom. "
