How to Make a Dramatic Theatre Mask

"On behalf of Expert Village I'm Emily DeCola in Puppet Kitchen in New York City. Today we are going to talk about theatrical masks. So as I mentioned the Dr. Rappaccini mask as well as the Faustus mask are made out of kind of a paper mache called Barth mache after Mr. Barth who is an artist in New Orleans who is known for his carnival floats. This is a paper mache that uses craft paper which is the bases for most paper mache. It is a heavy weight you know brown paper much like paper bags. But instead of using a water soluble glue like Elmer's glue or wood glue like most paper mache, this mache is done with contact cement. Not just any contact cement but here is my product pitch for the moment. This is a genuine jar of damp wood water base non flammable contact cement from my shop. You can tell cause it is so dirty but this is the right contact cement to do Barth mache with. This is an example of craft paper. "
